System wide transformational patient centred change programmes

Using the principles of patient centred transformation, a ground breaking Integrated Care System  organisational change programme was designed from the ground up to deliver excellent patient experience and better use of public funds.

In plain speak, we redesigned the system so that people with MSK (musculoskeletal, basically anything to do with bones or muscles) had a much more joined up experience. For example, one patient told us they had to ring one phone number and speak to one department around their foot issue, and then a totally different phone number and a different team to speak to someone else about their hip pain (which was all connected). The two different teams didn't speak to each other so had no idea what the other team was asking so the patient had to manage it all themselves, sometimes coming in to hospital multiple times a week to see teams that were (in some cases) in the same building, or even on the same floor! When you then add into this the physio (different organisation), the GP (different organisation) and the community nursing (different organisation) then you can see why the patient felt frustrated! A key member of the design team we provided  OD principles of system change and built a values based way of working for the whole system which resulted in much better patient outcomes. One patient said 'it feels like my care is about me now, rather than me fitting in with everyone else availability

Driving NHS Trusts to achieve CQC 'Outstanding' ratings

Medical Form

Now in no way are we claiming that this was a sole effort. The exceptional clinical and operational teams that deliver amazing care every single day deserve all the credit. However, if clinical and operational teams are not well led, not clear on organisational priority, not 'getting the basics right' with core training and appraisal and have an awful culture, then that amazing patient care becomes so much harder to achieve. We focussed on engaging with the the teams and really finding out what was 'getting in the way' and then supporting the organisation to address these through working with the Board and Executive while supporting grassroot improvements through the Quality Improvement (QI) approach. The classic mantra of 'if you look after the people, then the people will after the business' is true, but especially  in healthcare.

Designing & Delivering COVID Mass Vaccination Centres

Let me paint you a picture. Its November 2020. The country (and the world) is in lockdown. There is a vaccine in development but its not been approved yet but central government have been assured by the scientific community it will be ready for deployment by January 2021. The factories are on stand up to start manufacturing the vaccine as soon as it gets approved. The government  need a way for the vaccine to be given to as many people as possible in the shortest time frame to save lives and get the economy going again. But wait,  you cant use any NHS resources (as they are all busy dealing with the pandemic) so you need to create a brand new vaccination workforce. And they need to deliver 6000 vaccines a day by the end of January (raising to 10000 a day in March)  Across 3 mass vaccination sites. And outreach sites. And mobile sites. Annnnd go!

Our patch was the 2.2 million people in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and working in collaboration with partners including NHS, Councils, Fire Service, Ambulance, Airforce, Army, St Johns Ambulance, and private recruitment firms  to deliver this monumental task. We used all our OD capabilities to set up a brand new organisation with a core set of values and mission to bind together people from all works of life to deliver this life changing programme. We were often cited as areas of best practice with the first Astra Zenca jab given in our Oxford Site, to then then PM visiting to be shown around our sites.  We learnt the power of mission to bind a community and the ability to cross every obstacle with clear purpose and intent.

Leading Organisational Change Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Programmes

Love Equals Love

Equality and Equity underpin every brilliant organisation. It underpins ours too. We have experience of working and delivering equality programmes across all protected characteristics  in the public, educational and private sectors. We always focus on raising people awareness in the first instance by combining big data with in person interviews to highlight areas of unfairness, bias and discrimination that the organisation needs to address. We then support the organisation to set up systems to address the identified issues and continue the cycle of continuous learning which is so essential to ensure the organisations continues to grow.
